Billed For No Attendance?

Five year old Alex Nash was invited to one of his friends birthday party. At first Alex was going but his parents forgot they already had plans for the scheduled date. Alex’s parents did not have any contact info from the childs mother so they brushed it off. Coming from school the following evening Alex brought home a 24 dollar invoice from the childs mother stating “child part no show fee”. Alex’s parents thought it was a joke but soon realized it was not. In my opinion why would you schedule a birthday party somewhere people had to pay to attend. Isnt a birthday party supposed to be free for the guest?
